Another day, week or year has slipped by. Perhaps you are reflecting on what the past has brought you. You had dreams that didn’t materialize. Perhaps, you stumbled in your spiritual walk. Your health may have been a bother. A loved one passed away suddenly. You were downsized by the company you had been loyal to. Your career was made obsolete by technology. Your soul mate left you. Your child associated with the wrong crowd. Your business didn’t bring the fruits you anticipated.
Then you wonder, what does the future hold? How will I do things differently in order to grow spiritually, professionally and socially? How will I ease the emotional pain suffered from a broken relationship, or the loss of my loved one? You will soon realize that in order to thrive spiritually, professionally and socially in the coming years, you must leave the downfalls of the past behind you, because if you walk into the future weighed down by the past, you set yourself up for failure.
Residing on your destructive past denies you the opportunity to liberate yourself from past adversities to live better in the present for a better future. It is a waste of time, energy and resources. In holding onto pain, or past adversity, you begin a pattern of destructive behavior such as:
· Blaming others, this is a waste of time.
· Destroying creativity.
· Developing a defensive attitude.
· Illuminating what is wrong.
· Remaining stuck in a grim mindset.
· Creating an environment for negative feedback.
· Leading to many failures in life, broken relationships, fabled careers and regret....
In every adversity, you have an opportunity to learn, grow and go on with life, an opportunity not readily available if you excelled in everything. Unfortunate for most of us, we miss the opportunity to learn, because we feel we know all there is to be known. What a tragedy! Perhaps, you may want to learn that in life sometimes your setbacks are just steppingstones for a new beginning.
