Chapter One The Bird-A-Gram The tiny, cloth Cookiekids, Tia, Tad and Ann, laughed at their very tall friend, as he sang one of his favorite songs, at the top of his lungs. Gerry didn’t know that the reason he suddenly felt like singing, was because of the cookie he had just eaten. He also hadn’t realized that the words, “MAKES YOU WANT TO SING!” printed on his box of Maple Leaf Cookies, were actually true! But, he would soon find out that these cookies were made with a secret ingredient that was only found at the Cookie Dough Camp. As the Cookiekids watched their new friend, Gerry, they knew that it was this very mysterious ingredient that had given him the irrepressible urge to sing. Gerry was enjoying himself so much, that he didn’t even notice the two Magpies, Anamio and Mitoo (Ann-ah-me-oh, a Birdish name, meaning, A noisy, annoying Magpie in Oak and Me-two, a Birdish name, meaning, Magpie in tallest of Oaks), fly past him. They, of course, noticed him and were very much amused by his silly antics. They had been following Gerry ever since they first saw him, on the top of a little yellow bus, near the Sugar Hills. Anamio and Mitoo had seen these little buses many times, as they puffed out their pink smoke up and down At first Gerry had only been something different for them to watch and then later gossip about among their neighbors. But, when they noticed an amber-speckled Starling circling the boy, they suddenly became much more interested. They knew the plump little Starling did not belong in their territory and they were very curious about why he was there. That’s when the two nosey birds first decided to follow this out-of-place bird, which seemed to be following the yellow-haired boy. Now, sitting high up, in a blue Dot Tree, Anamio and Mitoo curiously watched as, Gerry, very loudly sang a song from one of his school plays. They watched the three Cookiekids too. The curious birds were still trying to figure out why this big boy was with these little Cookiekids. They also wanted to know why the Starling had watched the boy so closely when he got off the bus, at the Sugar Bridge. Silently, they watched, as Tad, Ann and Tia started walking back to their little wagons full of Sugarberries. Their wagons had been left near the pile of sugar cubes that Gerry had taken out of his pockets earlier. He had stacked them on some orange polka dotted leaves, just before they all took a swim in the Green River. It was not unusual to see Cookiekids with wagons full of berries, sugar cubes, acorns, feathers, pebbles or many other things that they picked up in their travels. But, it was unusual for them to be followed by a big, freckled-face boy and a suspicious-looking Starling. Anamio and Mitoo had never seen this boy, or this Starling, near their home before. Why were they there now? Earlier that day, the Magpies had followed the boy and the chubby, little Starling, to the Sugar Bridge, on the Green River. They even sat next to the Starling on the top of the Tell-A-Bird House. They were hoping to get some clues about his interest in the boy. But, even though they had easily struck up a conversation with him, they didn’t learn anything of value. After pretending to be a friendly neighbor, which was not his usual nature, the Starling, who said his name was Tosok, had flown off to the east and they hadn’t seen him since. But his playacting did not fool the Magpies. Starlings have never been known for their friendliness, or for being good neighbors. They were usually rude and kept to themselves. Anamio and Mitoo knew

About the Book
In Book One, The Old Canvas Map, Gerry was given a map by Ms. Razzleberry, the mysterious substitute teacher. When he studied his map and tried to imagine what it would be like to be in the Sugar Hills of Cookie County, he suddenly found himself there, sitting in a big pile of sugar! He got lost in a sugar blizzard and was amazed when he stopped the wind with his imagination. Tia, a three-inch Cookiekid, was also lost. Her friends, Tad and Ann, were searching for her, riding on the back of a sparrow. When they found her in Gerry’s shirt pocket they all became friends, and began a journey to Cookie Dough Camp.
Ahnadahan, the Ghost Owl, had been watching. He knew why Gerry had the ability to stop the wind with his imagination. It was the gold key he carried. So, Ahnadahan had quickly reported his sighting to Kateb, the berry finder, who reported to Favbe, leader of the Blackbirds. Favbe wanted Gerry’s gold key. He thought it would give him power over all the other birds of Mydreama.
In Book Two, Cookie Dough Camp, Gerry continues his journey and finally reaches the camp. On the way, he is nearly run over by some spotted Clothkaroos and is followed by a couple of curious Magpies. Inside the camp, Gerry hears the story of how the Clothkids were created. He is also surprised by the sudden appearance of his classmate, Shane. He meets Jesse and James, the raccoon brothers that steal sugar cubes and his map! The boys tour the brick ovens where the Cookies are made and they pledge to become Canvas Map Explorers!
Meanwhile, back at Blackbird Springs, Favbe orders his spies to find Gerry and get his gold key, at any cost!

Linda lives in Las Vegas, Nevada, with her husband, David. They have three grown daughters and two sons-in-law, who also live in
Linda was born in San Diego, California, but her family moved to a small town in rural Utah when she was eight. You will see a reflection of her country upbringing in her books, and maybe feel her enthusiasm for the small things in life that sometimes go unnoticed. Linda loves nature and its colors, especially trees and birds, which are incorporated into her stories. When she was young, little Linda would pretend that she lived with the birds and that she could talk with them, each understanding the other.
Because her family was poor, she was taught to make do with whatever they had. There were few toys, so she and her brother and sister played with dolls and stuffed animals that their mother had sewn out of old clothes. They also played with mud, rocks, and sticks, using their imaginations to create small villages. From this kind of play came her idea for the smallest of the cloth people now described in her books, the Cookiekids.
Linda first created the Clothkids as dolls. As she sewed, she thought about many adventures that they could have, and where they would live. She didn’t want to forget these stories, so she decided to draw them into a map. It started with a single sheet of paper and some colored pencils, and is now a 46”x60” map of the land of Mydreama.
