About the Book

Maynard Steele wanted only the best for his son, J.R.  Maynard’s disastrous childhood and the death of his wife led him to hate God.  This hatred had changed him, though he couldn’t see it.  While J.R. knew his father loved him, he resented the way his dad pushed him to be the best.  In addition, his dad would never talk about his mother or grandfather and J.R. was at the age where he desired to know more information than his dad was willing to share.

Known as a stellar quarterback, it was J.R.’s turn to wait as the senior quarterback was returning for his final season.  This infuriated Maynard as he had never seen his son on the bench.  Seth Cutler, however, was an excellent quarterback and as his friendship with J.R. gets stronger, the relationship between J.R. and his dad intensifies.  Unlike what Maynard has taught J.R., for Seth, football is not everything in life.  J.R., along with his good friends Joe and Manny begin spending more time with Seth and learn a great deal more than they bargain for.

Through wins and losses on the field, normal desires of teenagers, and tragedy, lives are changed.  Maynard and J.R. have to come to grips with each other and their family situation.  J.R., Joe, and Manny fight through their high school years and into college trying to stay on the right path.  Seth, with the help of his cousin Andie, help J.R. discover God’s plan and purpose for his life and it is a plan and purpose J.R. or his father would have never dreamed of!
