About the Author

Nduvaa Erna Nguaiko, the eldest of eight children, was born in Ozongaka, Omaruru, Namibia, to Tjikori Junias Keeja and Mina Nguaiko-Keeja. She grew up in her village until she went to an all-girl Catholic boarding school in Waldfrieden, near Omaruru, at the age of eight. Her determination to write an Otjiherero-English dictionary stems from her personal life experiences.

When Ms. Nguaiko arrived in the United States at the age of 17, with zero limited command of the English language, she attended an adult educational program in the evenings to improve her English and took courses to prepare for the GED test. Within a year, she received a full scholarship from United Nations to study at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, where she received her high school equivalency diploma 1989.

In 1991, Ms. Nguaiko enrolled at York College, City University of New York where she earned her Bachelor Degree in Science. She currently resides in the New York Metropolitan area, married with a son and a daughter.
