The room was bathed in darkness as the screen went blank. Gil and the director were discussing the scene as one of the producers asked some unseen individual to replay the last five minutes. Gil and the director stared up at the screen intently. Renee studied her husband’s sharp, confident profile and she yielded to the overwhelming need that had been building since the moment she saw him in the airport. Trying to control her yearning and concentrate on the film, she reached over and laced her fingers with his.
With a start, he turned slightly to look at her when he felt her hand entwine with his. His eyes swept over her approvingly. He could no longer deny the evening was a mistake. This wasn’t the time to be working or subjecting Renee to Paige and himself on the screen.
Before she even turned her head to look at him, she knew he was fastened on her. She raised her eyelids to look at him and a devilish look came into his eyes.
Quickly twisting his body her direction, he buried his face in her neck and whispered a kiss there. “I’m sorry, Bigfoot. Let me get you out of here,” he said quietly to her. His desire for her overrode everything else.
Paige's eyes followed Gil's movements, and she was startled when he leaned over to the unrecognizable silhouette seated by him. “Who’s sitting by Gil?” Paige questioned of Pierre.
“His love.”
“What do you mean?”
“His wife is sitting with him. He flew her in this morning.”
Paige smiled secretively in the dim light. Thinking she must be more of a problem for him than he suspected, especially if he had to fly his protection over to keep him away from her. So, he’s tempted.
“Is she more beautiful than me, Pierre?”
Ever the diplomat, Pierre answered her. “There’s no comparison, chérie.”
Paige threw her head back beaming.
“But you think she’s pretty?”
“Yes I do, but it doesn’t matter what I think of her. It’s what he thinks of her. She’s his addiction—his drug.”
Under her breath she said, “I used to be his drug.” She paused before going on. “How do you get rid of an addiction, Pierre?”
“You contaminate the drug so it’s not so attractive to the user anymore. Or you take the drug away and then the addict goes cold turkey.”
Paige turned her head to look at Pierre.
“You once told me that there was no woman you couldn’t have.”
Pierre smiled and replied, “If my mind is focused on the task, then that is true.”
Paige turned forward and focused on Gil once again, “I’ll pay you £100,000 if you contaminate his drug for me.”
This time it was Pierre who turned to look at the wicked profile of Paige.

Visibly quivering she took a deep breath in and picked up the receiver. “Hello?” she questioned the caller in a whisper. Gil jumped up from his seated position and said anxiously, “April!” She heard Gil let out a heavy breath. “Thank God you answered; I was wondering what was taking so long for you to call. Let me speak to Renee!” “Gil…” O’Keefe pulled the handset out of her hand. “Mr. Thompson?” Hesitantly Gil answered. “Yes. Who is this?” “I’m Detective O’Keefe with the Santa Fe PD,” Gil heard the name and froze. “Who? Why are you in my house? What’s wrong? Put April back on the phone.” “Mr. Thompson. Ms. Hunter is here by me. I need you to listen to me. I need to inform you—” Gil didn’t hear what came next. His conscious self detached from his body and he floated. Inform. He felt weak, faint, what now. He didn’t comprehend the policeman’s words. “Mr. Thompson, are you there, sir?” “What? I’m sorry I didn’t hear you.
