A light rain was falling as the wagon traveled down the main street of Pinewood. Reining the horses was Robert Masters, a local ranch owner. Sitting beside him was his five-year-old son Vince.

As Robert pulled back on the reins to stop in front of the general store, a man being pushed by a much bigger man came falling through the saloon doors not fifty feet from where the wagon had stopped.
Both men were out in the street. The one man had rightened himself yelling, “I don’t want to fight you Bart.”
Right in front of Robert and his son, Bart went for his gun.
The smaller man, who looked younger, flipped his gun out of his holster. Next came an ear-shattering bang. Flame and smoke shot out of the barrel. Bart’s gun never even cleared leather.
To Vince it looked like a magic trick how fast the gun appeared and fired. While his eyes were glued to the gun, Robert glanced over to see Bart fall to his knees. His hands covered his stomach trying to hold back the blood that was now staining the front of his shirt and draining down. His face was looking at the damage the bullet caused, then he looked up at his slayer, and fell face first in the mud.
Robert looked over to see Vince’s eyes still glued to the smoking gun. This was the first gunfight Vince would witness, and he would never forget the speed at which a gun could be drawn and fired.
He didn’t understand what could cause or provoke such a terrible act, but he was so affected that he was instantly determined to learn how to perfect the magic art of drawing a gun at lightening speed as he had just seen. He never noticed the death the gun had just delivered or the pain it ingested.
Vince, snapping out of his trance, jumped down and went into the store following his father. The storekeeper consoled Vince to get his mind off what he had just witnessed.
“Here boy, candy jars are here waiting for you,” John announced.
“John, can you watch Vince for a bit? I have a meeting I’m already late for,” asked Robert.
“Not a problem, Bob. You know I enjoy the kids when they come in,” he admitted.

The law finds that having Vince on their side is a good thing. His draw was said to be faster than most famous gunfighters known in the Wild West. The name Vince Masters was never listed as one of the fastest gunfighters in history as he was able to keep his identity unknown. His only interest was to find the man he was looking for and destroy him. Becoming famous was the one thing he wanted to prevent at all cost.
He finds that the many hours spent on learning to handle a gun would be an asset that would save his life as well as others. Never-the-less many big name gunfighters would go against this unknown man only to come up short and perish by the draw of the MASTER GUNSLINGER.
About the Author
Born 1949 in New Milford, Connecticut, Steven Smyrski grew up living adjacent to the Triple AAA ranch in South Kent, Ct. owned by his aunt and uncle. There some of the best rodeo Bulls and Broncos were bred and supplied to rodeos all over the country. Steve loved visiting the ranch when rodeo cowboys and cowgirls were visiting. Steven is also a collector of western firearms. He moved to Saint Petersburg, Florida in 1968.
