Fire roared as the last breath of power released from the frail elfin girl. Her body dropped to the ground, motionless.
The beast within the fire shrieked with the power he’d received. “Revenge I’ll have again! These walls can’t hold me. I will walk the Realms once more….”
Easha’s first instinct was to run to the girl, but Tatinka RAN away, dragging Easha with her. “We have to get out of here!” Tatinka’s voice caught in the bushes as they slapped and scrapped at them. The girls looked back and quickly wished they hadn’t. The shadowed figures were moving from the fire, coming toward them.
In full retreat now, Easha screamed for Segrum.
“RUUN!” The dragon roared from outside the trees. I can’t burn them until you’re out of the way.”
From behind, they heard the flaming beast’s voice, “Bring them to Meee!”
The giant Segrum stretched his neck as far into the forest as he could, “Climb up my nose and grab holt!”
The girls darted through the trees, terrified. They could hear the voices close behind. Easha tripped just as Tatinka jumped across Segrum’s nostrils. The dwarf leapt between his ears before realizing Easha had vanished!
“EASHA?” she screamed. “Easha!”
“Hurry,” Segrum pleaded.
Easha grabbed handfuls of dirt, trying to rise from the ground. Her boot had caught under a small log. She pulled her foot from the boot and in a great leap, landed against the horn between Segrum’s nostrils. He began to pull his head from the trees. The figures were close, their hands reaching out.
In the moment that Segrum pulled his head from the tree line, Easha caught Tatinka’s arm. At that second Segrum’s fire consumed every tree and shadow for thirty feet with a fiery explosion. The force of his gullet-release pushed Segrum off the ground. They flew higher and higher as the fire exploded within the forest.
A scream echoed after them. “I will find you....”
The three flew in complete silence for a long while. The shock and terror they each held chilled them to the bone.

About the Author
I realized years ago that fantasy and adventure were my passion in books; after having back surgery at twenty six, I began to write and within nineteen months this novel came to life. I have plotted two more books for this series and planned many more adventures for future books.
