What Did The Early Church Have To Rejoice About?
Introduction:
Your theme today deals with rejoicing. Rejoicing has to do with merriment, happiness, joyfulness, pleasantness. The church today represents the happy crowd. Where would the church be without rejoicing? It would be no church at all. From its inception, the church has been rejoicing. However, when we look at some of what the early church endured, we might need to ask ourselves what is it that they were rejoicing about? They were persecuted, attacked, etc.
Transition: We need to find out why they rejoiced because we ought to be rejoicing for the same reasons. Our text deals with some Christians in a difficult situation.
Division I
They rejoiced because they had a committed body of people. They were serious about their faith. They didn't have cry baby Christians. Cry baby Christians are a liability to the church.
(a) They don't want to do anything.
(b) The only way you can get them to do something is to beg them.
(c) When you get them to do something they cry about every little thing.
The church today has too many cry baby Christians.
But thank God we also have some committed Christians. You can always depend on some people.
Some are just too happy to serve the Lord. Thank God for committed Christians.
Division II
They could rejoice because they had power. Wars are won by power. Enemies are defeated by power.
Division III
They rejoiced because they had the right message. It was good news and they spread it around fast. Good news should be spread around fast. It was new and fresh and it met people's needs.
Conclusion
Well, we have it and it’s still new and fresh. It doesn't get old. It tells an old story, but it’s new and fresh. We need to get it to the drug addicts, alcoholics; it' new and fresh. We need to get it to the white house, schoolhouse and any other house because it's nice and fresh. It’s a good message. It’s a fresh message. It’s a saving message. It’s about Jesus.

About the Book
After having served the Lord in the preaching ministry for almost 35 years, and, having served as a pastor of two churches in two states, and sharing my gifts of preaching, teaching, and rightly dividing God’s Word, I have committed to share more by writing , “PREACHING FROM THE PULPIT OF NEW
It has been a blessing and a pleasure to evangelize, baptize, and stand as a shepherd to so many people and to witness their acceptance of Jesus Christ as their LORD and SAVIOR. My hope and desire is that God will use this book of sermons to serve at least three different purposes: The first is that He will use it as a tool of evangelism to every unsaved person who reads it; the second is that He will use it as a tool of inspiration to every saved person who reads it; and, the third is that He would use it as a tool of preparation and assistance for every preacher who reads it.
About the Author
Theodore P. Fields served as pastor of New Pilgrim Baptist Church of Salt Lake City, Utah from 1977 to 1989 and was called to his present pastorate at New Hope Baptist Church of Union City, California in May of 1989. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Religion from Westminster College of Salt Lake City, Utah, a Master of Divinity Degree from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary of Mill Valley, California, and a Doctor of Ministry Degree from The Southern Baptist School of Theological Studies of
He presently serves as an instructor of an off campus program of the Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary.
