About the Author

Mary Hunter was born in Washington, DC on October 28, 1946, the fourth born and only female in the family of six children. Her parents were Thomas and Dorothy Lollar and her father was a career soldier in the U.S. Army. She grew up in Pottstown, Pennsylvania where she attended high school and one year of schooling to become a Registered Nurse, later transferring to Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Viriginia to initially receive a degree in Nursing and finally matriculating in drama and creative writing. She met her husband in Norfolk, and has been married for twenty-six years.

            Mary started writing poems when she was in the third grade and poetry has been a part of her life for over fifty years. Mary said, “It provides me with a creative way to express my innermost feelings.”

            This is the first poem Mary authored.

                                    The brook travels on

                                    In unconcern

                                    And naturally

                                    Carves its path.

                                    But when its journey

                                    Is over

                                    It becomes a sea of wrath
