703 Wagner St. Elkhart In.

It all began when I was four years old in 1939.  I was told we were moving from St. Joe Street, which was predominately African-American, to 703 Wagner.  My mother, Daisy Lyons, was a domestic worker on Goshen Avenue and my step-father to be, Austin B. Burson, was a carpenter.  One day while my mother was working on Goshen Avenue, Austin was working across the street building bleachers at what would become Rice Field and he came to the house on Goshen Avenue seeking to fill his water jug.  Daisy was working that day and she answered the door.  Thus begins the friendship that would lead to Wagner St.
