About the Book

This book is written to try to make people aware of the beauty that is around them.

I’ve tried to put into words the pleasure I find in New England’s changing seasons. There is nothing like the feeling of coming upon a covered bridge on a country road on a crisp Autumn day in New Hampshire or Vermont.

If this book helps you to open the door of your imagination and see in your mind’s-eye what could have taken place in these “Tales in Rhyme,” you should find pleasure in it.

Use your imagination – Follow the Lighthouse Keeper up the sandy road to his home;- see, through the eyes of a child, the parade with General Washington taking command of his troops;- Share the gratitude of “Dutch” the cat who found refuge from the cruel life of a stray.

So, go ahead, - try it –

It’s been written to be shared.

About the Author

I am a native New Englander. I was born in Fall River, Massachusetts, where I still live.

As history was always a favorite subject, my hobbies include reading – historical novels, sewing, travel and photography. Some years ago I was lucky enough to win First Prize at the Fall River Art Association for a group of three photos I called “The Best of Switzerland.”

For thirty-two years I was employed as a clerk-typist at the Fall River School Department and retired about ten years ago.

My mother instilled in me a love of poetry at an early age. She was always interested in any new poems or songs I learned at school and could quote Longfellow or Whittier, stanza by stanza.

My father could be depended on for stories. He had two imaginary little girls – “Betty and Kate” – and would tell me of their adventures at the park or with a new sled, etc. Also about the Army and how he saw the sunrise over the Blue Ridge Mts. I was awakened once or twice at 5:00 a.m. to watch the sunrise from our third floor apartment. He died when I was ten years old.

My mother and I loved to travel. We took bus tours and independent tours. Boston at Christmas was a must.

When I learned to drive we headed for Canada, beautiful Quebec, New Brunswick – the mid west. My mother said we were “Irish Gypsies,” but our favorite trips were Autumn in New England. Nothing is as fantastic as our foliage.

I love animals – all animals – but I do have a special feeling for cats. I admire their graceful movements, their companionship, and yes, their sense of humor. They can give you a lift and a laugh. I appreciate the unconditional love they return to you for the home that you share with them.
