About the Book

Eagles, Angels and Butterflies – how we got our wings, is a diary of a young woman’s fight to survive the test and trials of life, after surviving breast cancer.  Surviving cancer is just one leg of the journey.  You also have to fight to live even when life seems unlivable.

This book is a journal of the most trying days of Tonya’s life, and her quest to maintain her health, her family, and her faith in God.

Eagles, Angels and Butterflies will inspire the uninspired, give hope to the hopeless, and give faith to the faithless.  Reading this book will change your life.

About the Author

Tonya T. Griffin was diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer at the age of 21, while pursuing her education at the University of Louisville in Kentucky.  Although she followed most of her doctors’ medical advice, she decided to forego chemotherapy to allow for a more holistic approach to fighting the disease.  For the next 6 years she was cancer-free.  But in 1997, at the age of 27, Tonya had a “recurrence.”  She again underwent a lumpectomy, and yet again refused chemotherapy.

Today, Tonya is a 43 year-old, 22-year, two-time breast cancer survivor.  Since her first diagnosis, she has married her college sweetheart, received her Bachelor of Science in Business Finance, and given birth to 2 beautiful girls, ages 11 and 7 years old.  Tonya’s mantra for life is “He was wounded for my transgressions, He bruised for my iniquities, the chastisement of my peace was upon Him, and with His stripes I am healed.”

Tonya uses various avenues to get the word out, that breast cancer is not just a middle-aged woman’s disease.   She also wants the medical community to begin to treat the “whole” person, when they are faced with a cancer diagnosis.  Tonya says, “Cancer is a human disease, and research should not be limited to just the pysical aspect of the disease.”  Tonya works diligently as an advocate for survivors through various organizations, and her prayer is that all cancers will be eradicated in her lifetime.
