About the Book
The Blue Heron Books are designed to help children cope successfully with critical personal and social issues. Volume I contains four short stories that focus on topics such as physical abuse, sexual abuse, domestic violence, foster care, adoption, and self-esteem. There is a worksheet following each short story to assist with processing these difficult topics with children. The books can be utilized as an intervention, prevention, or awareness tool. They are primarily designed for children developmentally between the ages of 5-10, but can be enjoyed and utilized by all ages.
About the Author
Erika received her Masters Degree in Social Work in 2001, and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Indiana. She has also completed extensive training in art and illustrated all the characters and designs in the Blue Heron Books. Erika has practiced as a child, adolescent, and family therapist for the past seven years. In her current work she specializes with children in foster care and is a child advocate. She is also a licensed foster parent. She has began working on her second addition of the Blue Heron Books that will be entitled "The Blue Heron Books Vol. II".
