Habits are learned responses, whether they are productive or counterproductive. You must really seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance in your life in order to break this spirit. Why, because if you do not view a bad behavior as a bad behavior, we won’t be set free. Let me explain, you must see the sin for what it really is. If you do not view sin in your life through the eyes of Christ, then you will not allow the love of Christ to enter into that area of your life to set you free. One of the chief spirits that you have to deal with is a lying spirit. This spirit will not leave willingly and it will not tell you that it has been lying to you over the years, convincing you to believe its lie as the truth. For example, if you walk against the light to cross the street, there is a high propensity that you will be hit by a car. You may say that I’ve always crossed the street in this fashion and I have never been hit by a car. Here is the lie, “The pedestrian has the right of way.” This is only correct when you cross in the cross walk when the traffic lights permits you to cross and you are not walking against oncoming traffic. This is a perfect example of a bad habit that needs to be broken. If you do not view walking across the street improperly as a problem, you will not take the initiative and discipline yourself to cross the street properly. See the sin for what it is even if it is a bad habit that has allowed you to seemingly prosper.
