THE MAD-CAP KINGDOM

ACT 1:

Forrest Stump: "Howdy friends, my name is Forrest Stump. I used to be a strong oak tree but I was cut down early in life by a mean deceptive wolf named Wolfgang Von Howlin. He thinks he owns the Smokey Mountains, and in a way he does. You see the female creatures in these parts think Wolfgang Von Howlin is a handsome devil, well, they got the devil part right, but the male creatures fear him, and for good reason, Von Howlin is crazy. But then again, so was his family. You will learn one thing about the South; we don’t hide the crazies from society, we act like they’re normal and just like one of us. That’s where we make our mistake; we want to believe everyone has some redeemable qualities. And the older I get the more I know my Momma was right when she said, “A creature doesn’t change his spots. Just because they go to church weekly, doesn’t make them good, and just because they stand in a garage all day doesn’t make them a car.” My Momma was the wisest person I ever knew… I sure do miss her (tearfully), that’s why I will never be able to forget the pain Wolfgang Von Howlin and his family did to my family, or what they did to these beautiful Smokey Mountains.  But, I sure have been blessed with lots of good friends like Te Amo the magical Butterfly, Harey the Rabbi rabbit, Bearhoven the baby cub, Davy Croaket the heroic frog, cute little Birdie Mae, and Whootie the owl to name just a few, and of course who can ever forget Faryl Foxette? What a lovely piece of fox-hood she is… well, I’m getting ahead of myself, let’s start at the beginning.”

My family and I lived in a place called Weepy Willow.  My family consisted of my Dad - Oakley, my Mom- Fern, my Uncle - Pinesap, my Aunt - Maple and my cousin - Birchbark.

There was not a lot of joy in Weepy Willow these days because a family of wolves was threatening all the trees.  These wolves used the trees to sharpen their claws and teeth, and they howled at all hours of the day and night hurting the trees’ ears and making their leaves tremor.

They bit off tree branches to use for their dens and to use as firewood to cook their meals

This family of wolves was made up of Wolfgang's Dad, Wolfgang Von Howlin' the First, his Mom Wolverina and his younger brother Wolfie. 

Father Von Howlin: “Son remember, some day everything here will be yours. You will own this land as far as your eyes can see.  Never think small, think huge. This place needs us wolves… every era needs it’s ruler – Rome had Caesar and Weepy Willow has Wolfgang Von Howlin… never forget that son.”
