About the Book

This book provides a look through my eyes living with bipolar disorder since childhood. I believed that life was a total loss by the time I was eighteen. The pesky thoughts of suicide have been a common theme throughout most of my life. I write about my experiences often with a poetic twist. My mental illness played a significant role in my marital discord. During my military career I experienced a hostile work environment, which exacerbated my mental condition. My autobiography is a series of mental “snapshots” of the funny, happy and serene as well as the nemesis of mental disease. I hope you will enjoy the look through my eyes.

About the Author

During my younger years, I was in awe of the natural beauty provided by living in the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon. It melded the sense that nature is king with the idea that all is well on planet earth. At nine my parents divorced and I was cast into a dark cloud of mystery. At seventeen I left home and attempted my first shot at college by attending Oregon State University. The following year I was hammered with nurse's aide work at Wildwood Medical Missionary Institute. This taught me about the benefits of massage as well as the fragile nature of life. I started a roofing company in Georgia when I was nineteen. In 1973 I married and later ran my own paving business for two years in Florida. I had a calling for medicine and enlisted in the military in 1976. After four years as a medical laboratory technician I became a Physician Assistant and was commissioned an officer. While in the military Patty and I had three children. In 1996 I chose to retire from the military due to worsening mental illness. I became completely disabled and could no longer work or attend to the family needs. It has been a difficult road since. After three years of study in 2004 I received my Administrative Assistant Certificate from Lake Region State College in North Dakota. In 2004 I began writing this autobiography. Also, I published a poetry book "A Note To Quote" in 2006.
