“Yes, yes” replies an old man.  “You know Him!  In fact, you were there with Him the day Jesus healed me of my blindness.”

Peter shouts, “Leave me alone, all of you!  Jesus is not a friend of mine!”

With that last denial, the rooster loudly crows the third time.   “Cock-a-doodle-doo!!”

Just then, Peter remembers Jesus’ words about the rooster crowing three times.  Peter DID let his friend down.  He had betrayed Jesus.  Peter hangs his head and cries.  IMAGINE how ashamed Peter felt!

Meanwhile, the soldiers have taken Jesus to be judged before Pilate, the governor.  After questioning Jesus, Pilate decides he cannot find Jesus wrong of any crime.  However, the crowd grows angrier and demands that Pilate punish Jesus.  They are close to rioting. 

Pilate says to the people, “What shall I do with this man who is called Christ?  He has committed no crime.”

“Crucify Him,” the crowd screams.  “Kill him!  He’s not our King!”

Pilate goes to the wash basin and washes his hands.  He wants no part of this.  IMAGINE the responsibility and guilt of having an innocent man put to death!

“I am innocent of this man’s blood.  His death will be on you,” says Pilate.

The crowd cheers, “Hooray!  We are going to crucify Him!”
