The fact that the Holy Bible contains an erotic ode to the breasts of a female beloved only hints at the epochal fascination and awe men have had for this anatomical feature of the female torso for millennia. There exists no other part of the female anatomy that evokes so much conversation, verbal lust, introspection and fantasization among men as the breasts of women. This connotes the almost surreal attention and focus men have regarding breasts.

The association of eroticism with female breasts transcends the realm of intimacy, and is a pivotal factor in marketing products to a male clientele. A non-too-subtle example is how car designers seek to imitate the rounded lines of breasts. During the 1950’s, for example, it was an open secret that the bulging chrome bumpers Detroit designed into many of its automobiles were intended to suggest a buxom woman.

Breasts are clearly a potent aspect of the female anatomy when it comes to evoking sensuality in the presence of a man. Yet, there is a dark side to this phenomenon, which has created immense and unnecessary emotional suffering in women. It has to do entirely with the myth that the erotic beauty of a woman’s body is solely correlated with the size of her breasts. However, nothing could be further from the truth

In opening our discussion of what defines a sensuous bosom, we must first kill the myth that mass and volume are the sole relevant determinants of breast aesthetics. In point of fact, that is the least important visual aspect of breasts.
