The warrior’s battle-axe gleamed sharply in the early dawn light of the dew drenched make shift practice field. A circle field of dirt surrounded by haystacks behind a small farmers cottage. It was a cool spring morning as the sun started its climb over the puffy white clouds in the pink morning sky, and a light breeze rustled through the new green grass. The warrior studied every move the young girl made as she circled around him with cat like reflexes. The enchanted sword, that the young girl had barrowed from her mother, glowed softly in her hand as she tried to spot a weakness in the fighter’s armor. Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, the young girl saw it! Each time the fighter raised the battle-axe higher than his shoulder, his small brass shield would drop at least six inches, exposing his naked tanned throat! The young girl circled the warrior another time keeping her eyes sharp, verifying the careless habitof her opponent. Yes, there it was again!The girl screamed her war cry and rushed toward the tall warrior. Her movements so quick that clouds of dust lingered in the now empty space behind her. His gleaming face towered above the young girl’s head; the brass shield dropped. The young girl’s magical sword lunged; its glowing tip aimed for the vulnerable spot at the base of the warrior’s tanned throat. The young girl raised her own brass shield above her head to parry her opponent’s axe blow. The young warrior's brilliant blue eyes widened in surprise as he realized his fatal mistake. The young girl’s sword tip pressed against the chain-mail armor of the warrior, ready to plunge upward into the tanned, muscular throat. The young girls body ridged and braced to make the final blow. Her opponent’s thick blond curls trembled with laughter as a broad smile brightened his smoothly shaven tanned cheeks.

K. Tilley was only twenty when she first dreamed of being an author and started to write this wonderful story. At the age of twenty she lived with her Grandmother in a small town in North Carolina, where most of the story was wrote using an old typewriter. The story was never finished, until fourteen years later. The reason for the lapse was beacuase many life changing events which had discouraged her to finish the book. Some of the life changing events that occured was the passing of her Grandmother in 1994 to her unfortunate first marriage which ended in divorce. Only after meeting her second husband in 2004 did she have the courage and creativity to finish and attempt to have her work published. At this present time she lives still in North Carolina content and happily married with her; husband Todd, dogs Buddy; Sasha; Gracie, and two cats Mattie and Poof.
