Harvesting Justice

Not really knowing what to say and feeling a bit helpless, Darla mounts her horse. She takes off sending it into a full run as Adam mounts and follows behind. After a few moments of him chasing after Darla, she slows her horse down to a trot. Adam catches up to her and starts talking again. "Darla, now comes the hard part. I have to move in and we have to make people think that we are back together in order to pull this off."

"You have to move in? Of course, you have to move in. What happens if I refuse?" Bringing her horse to a sudden stop.

"They will file aiding and abetting charges on you." With a regretful tone. "Along with harboring a fugitive and contributing to a crime. Look, I know how shitty this is but I am not..."

Outraged at the thought of being cornered she reaches over and grabs Adam by his collar causing him to suddenly stop speaking. "You just can’t stop putting me in positions that I don’t want to be in."

"You?" Throwing his hands out. "I didn’t seem to have a choice in this either. Can you imagine the fit that I threw when I was ordered to take this case?"

She pushes Adam back by his collar and lets go in a failed attempt to knock him off of the horse. "What the hell do I get for my efforts and heartaches in all of this?"

"You get a monthly check deposited directly into your account that is the same amount as mine. Your first check went in yesterday. Call the bank and see! You will receive this check for ten years."

"Well that’s comforting! Dirty money just keeps getting dirtier. It’s all one vicious circle."

"Yeah! And as you have been taught well by your loving mother and sister. Life! Is all one vicious circle. Don’t you think that it’s about time you got paid for the crap you have been forced to work with all of your life?"

"I don’t imagine they are the only two people in my life that have ever taught me that. Do you?"

"No." Shaking his head. "You sure can throw some dirty punches."

"All is fair in love and war. I’ve just been blessed with some of the finest teachers on this earth. Yeah, I guess it will be nice to be paid for the crap I‘ve been forced to work with all of my life."

Adam tries to break the ice, "So are we making love here or war?".

"Why don’t you pull my mane and find out for sure?"
