About the Book

Gemma and her brother, Darius, knew all about Le Gran Lezard. The big lizard was just a bogey-man that all the parents used to keep children from doing stupid things.

When their cousin from the United States visited them, they took her into the rain forest to seek the monster, in hopes of scaring her out of her ugly behavior. But they discovered that there really was something enormous in the forest, something that shook the earth when it walked. Something that toppled trees in its way. After climbing a silk cotton tree to escape the unseen creature, they swore each other to secrecy.

But Gemma was curious. She went back to find the monster, and she did….


About the Author

Wife to a United Nations official, Gilliam Clarke lived for fifteen years in the CaribbeanTrinidad, Grenada, and St. Lucia.

At St. Lucia she wrote a newspaper column on agriculture, history, and things related for The Star. Thus she became very familiar with the lives of the country folk.

Clarke grew up in Southport, North Carolina, and has won many awards for painting and drawing. She taught art history and Shakespeare in a special education class as a volunteer.

She and her husband presently live in Southern Pines, North Carolina, where she occupies herself with writing and working in stained and fused glass.
