THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven,

Hallowed be Thy name;

Thy kingdom come;

Thy will be done;

On earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

And forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,

But deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom,

The power and the glory,

For ever and ever,

Amen.

A short study of the Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven.

Isn’t it wonderful that our Father in heaven made this world, us and everything in it.  What an awesome Father we have.  There is no-one like Him; we can’t have that special relationship with Him if we don’t know Jesus, and say He is not only our Father but my Father.  For some of us, our Father is the only father that we have known, through our earthly father either dying or separating from the mother, leaving her to bring up the children on her own.  He is also known as Emmanuel, meaning God with us, who is in heaven and is within us by the power of the Holy Spirit, thus confirming the creed : God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit.

He is also known to some as the beloved one – the dear one, because He has a special relationship with us.  To others, God is our leader, He comes first in everything.  There is a hymn – “Christ be my leader, by night and by day.”  God is a father to us all, even though for some it is hard to think that way because of how their own father behaved towards them, for example alcohol abuse or sexual abuse, or he may have been an atheist.  God is omnipotent, He is in us and in heaven too.  We have a personal relationship with our Father that makes the Lord’s Prayer so special to us.
