“Where are we going now, Big Boy? Where are we going now?” I asked Big Boy excited to begin this New Year.
“What about me, Big Boy? Will I get adopted? Will I get a home too?” I asked.
“Well there’s only one Big Boy so somebody’s going home empty,” Big Boy said looking at his reflection in a store window and smiling.
“A cute pup like you stands a good chance of getting lucky.”
“OK! Let’s go!” I said and looked at myself in the store window too and licked my paws just like Big Boy. I looked like me, Jack.
Big Boy was still looking at himself and giving his hair an extra pat. “What’s a cutie, Big Boy and how can they give you an eye,” I asked. “Doesn’t that hurt?”
“You really are green,” Big Boy said. “I’m green!” I wailed. “Calm down kid you’re not green, green - just green.” He said. I sat down. My head was spinning.
“I don’t understand Big Boy? We’re going to a party with a cutie that can give you her eyes and I’m green but not green. Being Jack sure is confusing,’ I said.

About the Book
Life is full of ups and downs especially if you are a puppy in need of a name and in search of a home. Although it can sometimes be a scary world, Jack learns the importance of caring, sharing and friendship and that home really is where the heart is. With lots of love and the help of new friends Jack discovers that even a puppy has strength and talents and being himself is the best thing in the world.
Often the real world has questions and situations that are more frightening than any movie. Who am I? Where do I belong? Who are my friends? Why do bad things happen to good people? are questions every child asks and sometimes are the most difficult to answer. "Jack with The Curly Tail" addresses these situations and more, in a thoughtful, non-threatening and charming way designed to foster comunication between parent and child.
The story of"Jack With the Curly Tail" came as a response to the repeated request to "tell me a story" and an answer to the question "why."
About the Author
Michelle E. Brown was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. An artist/activist strongly influenced by the socio-economic, political and human rights history of the city, she has used these challenges as a back drop for her essays, poetry, performance pieces and now her first children's book.
Ms. Brown has been recognized locally and nationally for her efforts in promoting social justice and human rights. A 2005 recipient of the "Spirit of Detroit Award" and "Catalyst Award", her greatest accolade, however, is being known as "the best storyteller in the whole wide world" by her godchild Rafaella.
Her latest works include "Either Side of Eight Mile" a book of poetry and "Chairs - Stories Left by The Seat of Our Pants" an anthology work in progress.
