About the Book

The book is an ensemble of short stories from life written as truthfully as possible, as memory permitted. The stories are written with a light humor. The stories are only ‘crocks’ from life from different places and different periods of time.

Being a very private person, these stories are introduced to the public for the first time.

The stories shouldn’t be a guide or an example to how to live life. Absence of some names, both persons and places, is deliberated.

About the Author

EVA HRDLICKA was born in Prague in a time when the scars from World War II hadn’t yet healed completely and the communist party held the reins of power firmly in their hands.

She was an oversensitive, stubborn child, living with her parents, grandmother and older sister in a suburb of the capital city of Czechoslovakia.

Her romantic character was influenced by beautiful nature in her neighborhood and her native country, together with the strong influence from her father, an excellent violinist.

At a young age she was introduced to the theater and ballet by her father, she dreamed to be a ballet dancer and did study ballet for a short time, but her health didn’t permit her to pursued that profession.

She studied painting for a few years. Such a profession wasn’t the right choice for somebody who wasn’t a member of the communist party. Finally she gave up her dreams to be an artist and studied economy. Painting remains to be one of her favorite hobbies, together with reading and traveling.

She did marry more than once, but neither marriage lasted for long or was happy. Shortly after she finished her education she left her native country, lived shortly in Lebanon and then in the United Arab Emirates, where she lives until the present day.

Until her daughter went to study medicine in the U.S. they were inseparable. At present they are trying to visit each other as often as possible.

Until her only daughter went to study medicine to the US they were inseparable. She is taking care of a cat, which together with her daughter and mother she saved many years ago from a harsh life on the streets of Abu Dhabi (UAE). During all the ups and downs of her life she never lost her sense of humor and she always saw something funny in every situation. The subject of her writing is her life and her life experiences.
