Hearts of St. Regis

The idea for this project came to me last year during school.  I thought it would be a way to bring different generations together, at least for a short while, so that they could get to know and appreciate each other.  When given the outline for this project, my students exhibited a variety of responses.  Some of them were sure that no one they chose would agree to participate.  Some were sure they could not properly portray our subjects in writing.  As we progressed, they discovered that they really enjoyed interviewing our willing subjects, especially since I provided a nifty little video camera for them to use!

The students came up with the names of the people they wanted to interview.  There were a lot more people chosen, but we had to narrow it down to a manageable task so that we could get the first draft of the book to the publisher some time in January.  It takes approximately three to four months from initial submission to final product at the company we chose to print our book for us.

Everyone I approached about this project was enthusiastic and cooperative.  Everyone provided pictures that we could include in the book. They took time out of their busy lives to talk about themselves in front of a bunch of kids.  Very brave of them, I would have to say! My students and I are all very grateful to each and every person who helped us with this project.

I am very proud of my students for the work they did on this project.  They chose interesting questions and treated our guests with respect.  They worked very hard to write profiles that conveyed to the reader the importance of the person interviewed.
