About the Book

John Holman returned to his South Alabama hometown after four years with the United States Navy shortly after the end of the war in Korea. Returning home to his widowed mother and falling in love with the girl next door.  John coached football at the high school of his childhood.  John’s young wife died in childbirth shortly after the death of his beloved mother. John ended up on the West Coast and spiraled down to standing on the roadside with a work for food sign. After ten wasted years in California he did return to Alabama to begin a new life. John was then united with a grandfather that he didn’t know existed.  In his late forties John married and old friend from his hometown. Several years later, to fulfill the wishes of his grandfather, John got involved with Alabama politics. He served time as a senator and then four years later in Congress for the Republican Party. Having missed the carnage of 911 by only a few days, he and his wife Marie were ready for retirement on their estate back home in Alabama. Don’t glance at the last page of the book; let it’s ending come as a surprise.

About the Author

My name is Richard. My friends call me Dick. Please become my friend. This novel is not about me, even though my wife Bobbie, sometimes questions that it is. Well maybe just a little bit, is kind of like some things in my life, and some of the experiences I had while in the navy.  I was born in the early thirties.  My hometown was Irondale, Alabama. Yes, I did join the Navy; No, I did not see action in Korea.  On returning home from the navy, I married a girl from Bessemer, Alabama. We have five children, eleven grand’s and two greats. We raised our children on a farm: cows, pigs, chickens and several horses. From day one God has always been good to me. Our empty nest came all to soon.  We lost our oldest child, who was a great inspiration to our family and after his long fight with cancer, at age of thirty-five. I dedicate this book to his memory. “John & Peggy” has become a part of my life. Sometimes they are almost real to me. I hope you will enjoy my book and it will bring back the memories of happy times in your life.
