About the Book

This book is about my empirical research for ‘Middle England’ in little Britain - in a very similar way that Bill Bryson travelled around the country in Notes from a Small Island. Therefore like: Bryson, Voltaire (Candide’s adventures) and Michael Moore (in the USA about G. W Bush, etc) I am also trying to be highly amusing about my quest, come search for this concept; in this very small Island in a very large Universe. In essence the basic premise seems to be that the rightwing press thought this whole idea up of ‘Middle England’ based on some very dubious assumptions about social reality and probably some hidden agendas of their own - and believed as an axiom by nearly all the journalistic professions’ and most Politicians in the land…now! But I question outright that this is a self evident truth and suggest that it is probably nothing more than fiction, come myth. If we analyse the British class structure in a Sociological and analytical way and go out there in the real world to find the truth, about ‘Middle England’. In other words like God - this may be nothing more than an abstract concept - but believed by billions of people around the globe as an historical fact and very important to the true believers (sorry friends). No doubt ‘Middle England’ is just as important to the Daily Mail readers and journalists working for this rag as religion is to the world and just as true. But then again where is the real hard scientific empirical evidence for both concepts if you are a cynical old git like me? Perhaps only Professor Pangloss really knows the answers to these ideas; if they exists This is not to say that God or ‘Middle England’ is a complete myth. I am only just suggesting that there is very little real evidence for either…hence, please read on for the truth of ‘Middle England’, according to Brian V Peck

About the Author

Mr Peck was born 58 years ago in Port Stanley, Falkland Islands; South Atlantic has three children and two grandchildren and went to the Darwin Boarding School near Goose Green for 6 years. His first job at 14 in 1962 was for the Falkland Islands government Treasury department as a junior clerk. He came to Britain in 1964, by sea with his Stepfather, Mother and younger Brother, and then worked for a firm of solicitors in the Medway towns until joining the Royal Air Force for 9 years, in 1966: serving in Cyprus, Malta, Libya and Belgium. After working as a trade persons for 8 years on building sites, etc he went to three Universities and qualified as a lecturer in 1991…how was this possible, but true! With very little social mobility in the British class structure in the last 25 years he never practised as a teacher but with another postgraduate certificate in his hands in 1997 he decided to have a go at writing a book, which he had published in 2004. This is his second effort and in the planning stage of writing the third, while travelling around the globe. He hopes that you may enjoy him trying to be: Bill Bryson, Voltaire and Michael Moore all rolled into one.
