About the Book

The reason I wrote this book about black quarterbacks being underrated and some being denied the opportunity to play as quarterbacks in the NFL is because of how people still perceive the black quarterbacks. There are at least six starting black quarterbacks playing in the NFL. Racism against the black quarterbacks is alive and well. I feel that white and black people need to wake up and realize that racism is still a problem in America. White people still want to believe they are superior to the black man. White people believe that to be a quarterback you have to be the most intelligent player on the field and have leadership skills. They only think that white quarterbacks have the intelligence to play as quarterback. That is why I wrote this book.

About the Author

I was born in Lineville, Alabama, on December 25, 1939. I moved to Pittsburgh when I was six years old. I worked my way up from shop steward to become the first black president of Service Employees International Union, Local 29, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. My experience as a union official gave me greater insight and understanding about racism in America. Because I was a black president, both white and black members felt that I was not as qualified as a white president. The black quarterbacks experience the same thing. They want the white man to be in the number one spot. I wrote a book called Union Man that tells about my experience as the first black president of Local 29 and my experience with racism within the union.
