A Life Worth Living

SEEING BEYOND MY EYES

          There is a world that exists beyond our eyes. Our eyes tell us what we can see in this world. Yet there is a world that exists beyond our eyes, a world which our eyes do not have the ability to show us. Our eyes see only the obvious, they see the object. They look only at the object rather than through it. They tell us what it is, not its true meaning. To find this world and discover it for yourself, you must look beyond what your eyes tell you. As far as how to do this is concerned, I cannot direct you because there are no words that can define it, that I may instruct anybody. I believe that this isn’t something that we can be taught, however, like most other things in the world, but rather this sight is given to people by God. It is this world beyond my eyes that has begun to define my life. The defining moments of my life are the ripple effects from this world into my everyday life. There is much poetry written and art created that cannot be understood by all, but only by those who can see beyond their eyes. The eyes tell you that the statue is just a naked manikin, perhaps a perverse object to publicly display to some. But it’s not, however…..That’s not what it is…..You must be able to look beyond what your eyes are telling you in order to truly understand it. If only others could see the world that exists beyond the eyes, if only they could see it. So many people go their whole lives missing out on what God has for them. They don’t even know about this place, they cannot acknowledge its existence and therefore never see it. Oh, how much they are missing in life and they don’t even know what they are missing.

          I look back on my life thus far and realize what kind of life I would have lived and who I would have become if not for God saving me and changing me, making me new with the ability to see the things that I normally, along with many others, could not see. Oftentimes, people have laughed and mocked me for this. There are few people I can explain this to who need not hold back from bursting forth with laughter or insult. Yet, just because you cannot understand something does not make it any less real. They laugh because they do not understand. Only a fool laughs at that which he does not understand. But if they could only see…….Oh, if they could only see it! If they would only stop laughing and begin to earnestly seek God and His will for their lives. If only they would desire to see the world that exists beyond their eyes, they would come to this point, realizing what they would have missed had they not seen it……but sadly, however, most people will never get to this point (I know this only because I see it in the majority every day). I think, perhaps, that this is a gift given by God when one chooses to follow Him. This is not to say we will then be perfect and never fall, but rather that our life prayer be “Not my will, but let yours be done God, above all,” that will sustain and preserve us. Then again, we all have our gifts from God and they are all different. However, I believe that this is not merely an ability given through our own righteousness, but rather out of obedience to God and following Him to where He wants to lead us (even if we fall many times along the way).

          One who lives in sin continually and will not make themselves right with God will never see this world that exists beyond our eyes nor be able to enjoy the serenity that comes with it. It is not by our own power and ability that we get here, but through God. Life isn’t about where you’ve been or what you’ve done, it’s about where you’re going; it’s about where God is taking you. You have one life to live and God has had a plan for you since before you were born. It’s not too late, you haven’t screwed up bad enough that you are beyond the point of no return, but it must be your decision. Out of His love for us, this is our God-given right as human beings, to choose Him or to deny Him. If we choose Him, we can and will receive all the blessings and the life He wants to show us and give to us. But apart from Him, we cannot receive these gifts nor even acknowledge their existence because aside from God, we cannot see beyond our eyes. The things of God will be right in front of our eyes, yet we will be completely blind to them and more often than not, we are. And for some, they always will be. Don’t miss it! It is here where passion is discovered. It is here that the secret to becoming truly alive resides. It has been locked up and hidden away long enough….It is bursting at the seams to be unleashed, yet it cannot be released until it is discovered. It is there but most, sadly, will never see it, let alone experience it. Only by God is this given and He wants everybody to discover it and live with the ability to see beyond their eyes, but it is your decision and yours alone. Anybody can receive it from God, but they must be willing, as most are not. It is up to you and you alone. Will you receive it? Will you ever see beyond your eyes?
