As
we were seated in the waiting room, we joked uneasily that the news
must not be good because we were the only three people present, in a
large waiting room, of a very large medical practice. Beth and I
laughed nervously. After
having my thyroid removed, I temporarily hummed in three-part harmony! I
teasingly threatened her that I would hum and embarrass her if she cried when the
doctor finally disclosed what my diagnosis was and what the outlook would mean
for all of us.
Finally, we were ushered back to the examining room with the door left
wide open. The doctor passed by the room a couple of times but
didn’t even glance at us. This was so unlike him and my nerves
became jangled at his obvious discomfort. Eventually, he came in
and asked if we were nervous. Of course, we all replied in
unison, “Yes!”
The doctor sat down, opened the file and looked at the report.
Then he stood and said he would make copies of it so we could discuss
the results. I anxiously asked him just to tell us what it said,
although I already felt the results were not what we wanted to
hear. I silently uttered a prayer to God, “Not my will but yours.”

About the Author
Dee Tracy resides with her husband, Bob, in Franklin, Indiana.
They have two grown sons and one grandson. Dee and Bob have been
married for twenty-seven years and enjoy taking long walks,
having quiet dinners and spending time with family and friends.
Dee begins her day with a steamy cup of coffee and quiet time with
God. She also enjoys
drawing, gardening, reading and listening to music.
