She is in shock, and I know then that Luigi is there. I push her aside and run through the rooms until I find the bedroom, and there he is, lying in bed, all nice and cozy.
“So this is where you have been? You no good
With that I begin beating him with my umbrella. I am in a rage. How could this man I have loved for so long be here with this woman? How in God’s name has he come to this? All I have heard from my sister told to her by Vincent is right. All the time I am thinking these thoughts, I am beating him. He is howling with pain. Suddenly, I realize that if I kill him, what will happen to my children? They will be motherless and fatherless. Not that being fatherless means anything, but motherless, that was too traumatic.
I stop beating him and turn away. I feel degraded and beaten with pain, as though I have been struck over and over with the umbrella. Crying hysterically, and in such a fit of rage, I leave what I felt is a bordello of sin where he now lives and vowed never to see him again.
How I reached home after that incident is beyond my wildest imagination. I am drenched from the rain, and drowning from my own sorrow for all that I have seen and done. I bathe and go to bed hoping, that I can pull myself together before it is time to get the children up and ready for school. How can I face the day ahead of me? How can I go on with all that I have seen and done the day before?
