Dead Letter Office

Outside it was hot, there was a line of yellow taxis parked outside but no sign of a bus. The taxis looked expensive, and nothing like the ones he had seen in New York movies; they weren’t big and cumbersome, they were much smaller and Japanese looking. He looked around for a bus again, but to no avail. A tall thin man stood a few yards from him and he walked over towards him;

"Sorry mate do you know how to get a bus into town, into Manhattan?”

The guy turned slowly and gazed into Christy’s face with a huge look of glee and elation strapped to his face. His beaming smile and slow response to the question conveyed his lack of furniture upstairs. Christy waited for him to speak, losing interest by the second.....

“Yes my friend we shall ride the bus; the metaphoric bus to happiness and eternal life”

“No I’m looking for a bus to Manhattan”

“Ah but walking brings you closer to Jesus my friend” as he winked at Christy, endeavouring to initiate theological debate.

“Ok ok but I just want to get closer to town right now, do you know where the buses pull up?”

“I know many things my friend.”............. Christy turned and opened the nearest taxi door;

“Manhattan?”

“Sure, hop in buddy”
