From within the insulated container that held him tightly in the car’s trunk, Ed could hear some muffled voices outside. He was unable to ascertain what was being said, yet he felt that something was wrong because the car hadn’t moved for a while. Unlike his in-coming trip, he was much better at controlling his repetitive feelings of panic. His breathing was steady despite the uncomfortable heat. On several occasions he had to suppress sneezing episodes. Ed was sure that no one from outside could hear his aborted spasmodic expirations of breath, but he was concerned about the oxygen he was wasting trying to prevent the sneezing attacks.
Thinking of Ed’s predicament kept interfering with A.J.’s thought process. Her eyes kept fixating on the gate barrier that rested in front of the car. She was slow to respond to the guard’s question about why she had diverted off the main roadway.
“If I tell you, will you promise not to tell anyone else?”
“I can’t do that Ms. Jamison. I have a job to do and if you’ve done something wrong, then you are going to have to admit it.”
“I know it probably wasn’t the most appropriate thing to do, but I didn’t think anyone would notice.”

About the Author
Gordon Polk has worked 25 years in the pharmaceutical industry. From within multinational corporations, he has participated in the development and launches of many new drugs. To facilitate access to new medicines, Gordon has lobbied politicians, government bureaucrats, and insurance companies. From his direct interactions with health care workers and patients, he has seen the need for new medicines across a wide range of diseases. Relying upon his personal experiences, Poison Pill is Gordon’s first novel. With a commerce degree from Queen’s University, he combines business with fiction to illustrate how corporations can have an impact on all members of society.
