LouisE the Easter Crab

Finally, they reached the other side of the harbor where the tankers were docked.  Since the rockfish couldn’t read, LouisE poked her head out of the water and read the ships registries.  She told the rockfish to stop when they reached a tanker from Chile. She figured she could get off somewhere along the way.  The rockfish put her at the anchor of the giant ship.  She hugged them goodbye, and they wished each other good luck. LouisE rested and built her strength back up.  Then late that night, when she couldn’t hear cable cars or any activity above on the ship, she started her journey.  Link by link, she pulled herself up the chain of the long anchor.  When she reached the top, she scuttled as quietly as possible around the inside edge of the ship.  Suddenly, she heard shouting in a foreign language.  She saw a bucket and jumped in it, hoping it wasn’t soap or paint.  Lucky for her, it was just salt water. For days and days she hid in the bucket unseen.  She was hungry and bored, but she knew that soon she would be safe.  One morning she heard some deckhands talking.  She only understood the words Easter Island.  That sounded like a great place to live.  She envisioned bunnies and eggs all year long. Maybe the natives were kind, gentle vegetarians.  LouisE wished she had done better at geography and Spanish in school. Were the deckhands just talking about Easter Island, or were they actually near it?   LouisE didn’t know, but she decided Easter Island was another good omen, because Easter was her most favorite holiday.
