CHAPTER 7 THE GOD OF THE BIBLE The word miracle is described as “an event or action that apparently contradicts known scientific laws and is hence thought to be due to supernatural causes, esp. to an act of God.” In some cases, the fact that the faithful followers and special people did what Yahweh, i.e., God, asked them to do, even though it sounded like they were being lead to their potential demise, they did live to tell of the experiences. As far fetched as some of the stories may seem, they lead me to believe that Yahweh did indeed perform certain miracles for these ancient people. My favorite example of story embellishment is Noah and the flood. Noah (and the storytellers and the original writer of Genesis) did not know that the earth was round. All they knew about geography was what they had seen and what was told to them by “world” travelers. All they knew about animals of the earth was what they owned and saw and stories told by travelers, friends, etc. When Yahweh told Noah to take a pair of every animal on to the huge boat Noah was building, it was impossible to take a pair of “every” animal with him. My interpretation of the story is that Noah probably did exist and Yahweh probably had favor on him because the others in his community were immoral. It is possible that there were forty days and nights of constant rain that created general flooding that submerged the valley he lived in. The fact that he would even build a large boat on his land and put his family and animals on it to save their lives is impressive to me. I think the part about the destruction of the whole earth is not plausible. To Noah and the other inhabitants of his area, the whole world was essentially destroyed for they had nothing afterwards. The whole area of his existence and the people who lived there with him were destroyed or made inhabitable. The story still gets its point across even if it is made more believable. . . . This use of logic can be used in other Old Testament stories such as Adam and Eve, and David and the Giant. Sure, there were initial humans on the very fertile earth. However, anthropologists still haven’t agreed on what a human being is. One definition of a human could be an animal that is intelligent enough to be able to think logically, solve problems, walk on two legs for extended periods of time and have a cognizance of their own being as a special animal. Or, an animal that can recognize that there is a God that they must contend with. . . . While crossing the Red Sea is difficult to believe, it is not impossible. There are new theories about how oceans that once existed are now dry deserts. These theories describe how pressures can build up in the liquid core of the earth and force whole landmasses to raise several hundred feet. Suppose God allowed the Jews to cross the Red Sea by temporarily raising the earth under the crossing point so the water would recede to make a path. Not only would the path be water free, it could have been selected so that the crossing point would be where there were mainly stones or a flat rock valley under the water. . . The subsequent lowering of the earth and flooding the ....

&A LOGICAL GOD SUMMARY A Logical God - Exploring a Spiritual and Physical World investigates the development of early religious reasoning that caused a wide variety of unique beliefs to evolve. Most early civilizations were frightened by death and curious and amazed by the apparent power of unknown “spirits” during violent changes in the earth’s environment such as storms or geotectonic eruptions. However, the silence and beauty of the night skies with the moon, stars and unpredictable planets created different thoughts of wonder about what produced these natural phenomena. Some chose to invent deities to be the sources of power over everything known and unknown The topics of science and religion are investigated early in A Logical God. As people became more knowledgeable of basic science, they began to explore the sources of the energy that could be responsible for creating life, the world and the heavens. Thus, the theories of creation and physical evolution are compared to evaluate beliefs in religion versus scientific naturalism. This requires evaluating the development and beliefs of the major organized religions. Subsequent chapters discuss the details of specific beliefs of the Judeo-Christian religions. The latter half of the book explores basic topics such as the God of the Jews and Christians, each person's physical and spiritual existence before and after death. A Logical God closes by discussing everyone’s responsibility for utilizing their faith to take action toward truly improving life on earth. By strengthening and utilizing spiritual faith, individuals can unite and create positive influences on society and our environment by directing technology to focus more on communities’ most basic problems.
About the Author
ABOUT THE AUTHOR The author was raised in St. Louis, Missouri and quickly developed an interest in math and science in public schools. While attending the respected engineering school, Missouri University of Science and Technology, he requested help from God and received it in an unusual manner. This incident firmly sealed his personal relationship with God and led him to develop a trust in His promises. After achieving a BS degree in Metallurgical Engineering and Nuclear Science, he then joined the metals industrial workforce. Besides increasing his engineering understanding, he explored other sciences and astronomy. He felt that he was being "pushed” by God to gain more religious knowledge. While continuing study of the Judeo-Christian scriptures, his faith grew such that he felt a need to write a book about how we all can use logic and science to explain historic topics and miracles accepted by Jewish and Christian faiths. His analyses will assist others who need a deeper understanding about their spiritual faith. He also discusses many common questions about physical and spiritual existence that utilizes the fields of ancient history, natural sciences, astronomy, and the physical forces affecting everything. During the six years of manipulating words and thoughts and various rewrites, the book title, "A Logical God," emerged to best explain the contents of the book. The author’s goal is to assist any person to better understand a logical approach to religious faith by incorporating previous and emerging scientific revelations. Technical questions about physical evidence of a God are explored in detail and he addresses very basic questions about communicating with God and living and dying based on science and God's design for human beings. Understanding these topics can answer many typical questions and give the reader confidence in their very personal spiritual beliefs in God.
