Solving the Drug War is imperative because it is one of the largest burdens of modern mankind that can easily be fixed with a small change in legislation. It is a burden that single-handedly diverts massive amounts of funds and attention from matters that desperately need those funds and attention more. Plus it persecutes the offending person far more than what should be acceptable under cruel and unusual punishment. It''s just that small change in legislation that could fix the Drug War and set it on a path of redemption that will change it from being one of the most inefficient and reckless wastes of money, to a humane and responsible policy that protects people but also gives them back the right to their body and what they choose to put in it. At the same time this new policy on drugs will free up enormous amounts of money already being spent waging the War on Drugs, as well as bring in an entire new source of income from taxes. Taxes? Yes, but don''t assume my plan involves selling drugs to junkies, it just isn''t that bleak. It''s much more involved and logical then that, not to mention humane. With all this new income, the government can then flood other neglected public programs with money that it previously had to scale back on. To even imagine a public education system that has no major budget restraints in today''s world is unthinkable, but the possibilities are unlimited in a society not bogged down by unrealistic ideals concerning drug prohibition.
You already know that there are major, fundamental problems concerning the execution of the War on Drugs and you have daunting perceptions about drug use in general. You want to see change but not just change without purpose and direction. You want to see improvement that leads to fewer people abusing drugs, a decreased availability of dangerous drugs, and a free and safe society living side by side with drugs because as we all know they will never go away.
