About the Book
In 1971 I began reading the Book of Philippians. I read it every night for about two years. As you can imagine, we became familiar friends.
I was newly divorced, new to the secular business world (after eighteen years of ministerial life), raising two sons as a single parent, and burdened with debt. I had a small rented home and large payments on an old Barracuda. During some very difficult years I learned the resources found in the Book of Philippians.
Today, as I see divorce on the rise (both in the secular world and the church) and people who are hurting, I want to share the resources I have found in God’s Word.

These were challenging days since she had not worked outside the church for the 18 years of her marriage. Bette began seeking jobs in the secular society that she might qualify for. That was really funny! At her interview for a position with a large oil and gas company, she was asked what position she was applying for. "A secretary," she replied. The man giving her the interview threw back his head and laughed saying, "You won''t start as a ''secretary'' at this company, you will be lucky to start as a ''clerk''!" She was offered a job at the company where she retired after twenty-five years. Her title at retirement was Administrative Assistant to the President, in fact, the last four Presidents. So for a job that she could not qualify for, she climbed to "First Lady" of the Company and that only through the favor and grace of God.
Bette and her wonderful husband, Richard, merged families and "grew" a great family in
