Once we were robbed of our names and our native land

Surrendered by force 2 the laws of another man

It''s recorded we were packed by thousands on ships

Being brutally beaten by men with long whips

So many tears were cried by those who were left behind

Not knowing how we were doing, if we were dead or alive

Little babies barely born were being taken from their mothers

Fathers and sons were being torn from one another

Rest in peace my grandfather never made it on the boat

Refusing 2 surrender someone cut open his throat

My grandmother died from a heart filled with grief

The year was 1679, when I was sold 2 the Strong.

They moved me down South, 2 a place called Mississippi

Where I became Master’s official property

I was placed inside of a small house

With ooh, I''d say about fifteen 2 twenty other slaves

None of us were from Mississippi, see we were all bought as trade

We ate and slept, as if we were family

And since we were all we had, it kinda came naturally
