About the Book

The title A Rendezvous in Summer comes from two inspirations: the many rendezvous with the many wonderful people (angels) who inspired, and helped me with this musical during the many summers we spent working toward its completion. The second inspiration has been the love and attention my wife Gina Maria and our kids gave (thanks Bran) when we decided to take on this mission; it was a rendezvous with love for us all in the summer of 1995.

A Rendezvous in Summer is a scripture-based musical parable about the struggle between good and evil. The musical begins with creation of the world and moves through the fall of Lucifer, the fall of man, Christ’s death and resurrection, and ends in a modern day neighborhood where the forces of good and evil are at war over the souls of a group of underprivileged teenagers. Four fallen angels travel through time to wage war against one of the chosen ones, a local Pastor who has yet to realize his spiritual potential. Raphael (Representing God, the healer) and a group of angels were sent to protect the pastor; lives start to change as the angels begin to manifest themselves as humans throughout the neighborhood.

A few Biblical principles are written into the script, but at no time is the author trying to change The Word of God: but have used artistic freedom to hopefully stimulate young hearts and minds to move closer to God’s Word. Prayerfully, this story will lead some lost soul to the knowledge of the truth of the love of Jesus Christ.

We hope A Rendezvous in Summer will help move us closer to understand what Christ meant when He commanded us to love our enemies. When we learn to forgive those who are not our friends, we begin to scratch the surface of what it really means to love our neighbor. When we learn to love and forgive like Christ, we open up a new level of love and forgiveness for ourselves.

About the Author

Stephen Cornell was born February 6, 1959 in Savannah, GA to Reverend and Mrs. Charles Wilkerson. As a child he was brought up in the church, and spent most of his time playing the drums for devotional service. His father, who was an evangelist in the good old days, took Stephen along to revivals and speaking engagements, etc. His father encouraged the growth of both his spiritual and artistic sides. He taught him many things but the most important thing was to give no credibility to his limitations; ignore them completely and do what it is you want to do. His mother sang like an angel, and was a gifted song writer. Also, she was Stephen’s first rendezvous with an angel. Faithful until the end, and she lived her life as a real example of The Christ for him and to anyone else who knew her. Always willing to forgive and turn the other cheek; we pray that some of her exquisiteness, and natural loveliness was passed on to us.

As he grew older, many times he found himself outside of his spiritual cocoon, and he found himself longing to know The God of his fathers. Not the far off bearded figure in the mist. But the one true God who still manifests Himself in real ways. Through many ups and downs, Stephen began learned who God was to him. He found that God’s plan works, and Through Jesus Christ we gain access to the entire Kingdom of God. There’s a lot that could be said about faith in God. If it is the Lord that your heart longs for, faith is His substance, and without seeing you can have the assurance and the evidence of  The Lord God.
