About the Book

            Socrates Smith, better known s Sock, is an eight year old boy who lives in the Hill Street neighborhood.  He is friendly with Miss Alice Jones, an elderly neighbor.  Miss Jones faints on the balcony of their apartment complex and Sock comes to her rescue and becomes a hero to her.

 


About the Author

Ann H. Brown has been writing since she was a child.  She received awards for her writing while in elementary and high school. Several of her stories and poems appeared in the school newspapers, at Esmond Elementary School and Morgan Park High School.  In 1980 she received the Gwendolyn Brookes Certificate of Merit for her poem Roof Top Philosophy.  Mrs. Brown particularly enjoys writing children’s books and now considers this to be her main career.

 

About the Illustrator

 

Lorraine L. Rose is a talented artist who interpreted the story of Sock with illustrations that truly bring the story alive.  Lorraine has studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois. This is her first effort at illustrating children’s books. Lorraine is Ann Brown’s niece and the two of them have produced a beautiful children’s book for everyone to enjoy.
