Two Different Worlds
‘I feel so happy tonight. I really hope that we could do this again sometime.’ Matt said.
Holly stopped walking and looked at Matt. They looked into each other’s eyes trying to read what the other person is thinking.
‘Of course we can.’ Holly finally said and looked at the view.
‘It’s really nice here Matt.’
The lights from the restaurants and bars were reflecting in the lake. The water is really calm and the air just a cool breeze. Matt suddenly took hold of Holly’s hand. Holly feeling shocked didn’t know how to respond.
‘It is really nice here. Its got a great view and I’m with a great person. I’m really glad that our parents are still in contact with each other if not I wouldn’t know where or how to find you!’ Matt said enthusiastically.
Holly recalled back to when she received the phone call from her mum.
‘You remember Matt?’ Holly’s mum had asked.
Of course I do. How can I forget him?? Holly thought to herself. Before she could answer, her mum carried on.
‘Well his parents called before and said that Matt will be moving to the city and would like to catch up with you. I said yes for you and have arranged for you both to meet.’
‘Mum, why didn’t you ask me first?’
‘Holly, what’s wrong with meeting Matt? You used to be really fond of him and he has turned out to be a fine young man!’
I am still fond of him but I’m not a fine young lady! Holly wanted to say.
‘If you don’t want to go, I will call his parents and tell them to tell Matt.’
Holly’s mum was about to hang up when Holly suddenly shouted
‘No, no I’ll meet him Mum.’ Scared of missing the chance.
And now she is in one of the most expensive places on a nice romantic night with the guy that she had always liked, looking at a magnificent view. What more could a girl ask for?
‘I really want to get to know you again’ Matt was saying ‘I know we have drifted apart over the years, well more like lost contact but I really hope that you feel the same way?’ Matt said gazing into Holly’s eyes again.
Holly’s heart started beating really fast. She feels like she is in a movie in Hollywood and what made the moment even more movie-like is someone sat at the piano playing ‘Cannon in D’, in the background where all the restaurants were. No one has ever proposed their love to her before and what makes it more nerve racking is that she does love Matt. Holly didn’t know what to say. Part of her wants to get to know him but the other half of her feels terrified of revealing her past and everything else to him.
Matt remained silent waiting for an answer.
