“When you think of pink, you think of babies and little girls. Pink is so soft, sweet, and innocent. But as you grow from a little girl to a woman, things change. You start to try different combinations of pink: pink and purple, pink and white, pink and yellow. Then one day you grow up, and what you perceive as pink is no longer pink. When you become a woman, a real woman, you become bolder; stronger. That’s what happens to your pinks. They become bolder and stronger and the next thing you know, you’re wearing rose or fuchsia.”
“So what you’re saying is be bolder, stronger. Learn to stand on my own two feet. I get it.”
“What I’m saying to you Rita is, real women don’t wear pink. Are you a woman? A real woman?”
That was a lot to swallow. We get older and assume that we’re automatically men or women. Real womanhood doesn’t come with age. It takes trials and tribulations in your life to help you establish where you truly stand. I had overcome so many things over the past few years that had prepared me for this moment. So on that day, I declared myself a woman. A real woman.
I went home that night with a new attitude. No longer was I the devil’s doormat. I was confident, fierce, and a little cocky. I pitied the fool that challenged my womanhood. So what next? I called the private investigator.
