It was my fifth counseling session. The room was dimly lit with soft colors, and being relaxed I seemed to drift into a strange sensation. Iris was talking to me with a very low, hypnotic, soothing voice. “Arthur, you are beginning to doze and drift into the past. Going through darkness and shadows and passing through infinity of memory.” I felt as if I began whispering very calmly, as if I was traveling through space on a beam of white light. I lost the awareness of the couch that I was lying on. Before losing the awareness of my therapist’s voice, I remember her saying, “Describe your journey, sharing your experiences without any effort or analytical approach.” The white beam of light projected me towards what appeared to be a gold-domed building on a plateau in space. I saw myself entering the building and walking into a beautiful lobby. Hung on the walls of the lobby were old landscape paintings. Sculptures were on pedestals throughout the lobby. Soft classical music was playing from speakers mounted on the ceiling of the lobby. I seemed to be beyond the barrier of infinity as I walked towards a leather-paneled door. I was pulling the door open and walking through the doorway into a theater. Like an apparition, a beautiful hostess approached me. She escorted me down the middle aisle of the theater, to the right side of the stage, and onto the stage. She escorted me to the center of the stage to a podium. My hostess stepped aside from me as I faced the audience of the theater. Every seat was occupied. As the theater lights began to dim, a spot light illuminated a booklet on the center of the podium. A small mirror faced me, hidden from the audience. A microphone was mounted on the podium. Now I noticed the title of the booklet: “Highlights of Arthur Bebell.” I realized at this point, in my altered state of conscious awareness, I was there to share the events of my life. I turned the cover page over to the beginning. At this point I felt that I was orating, and I heard my voice resonating throughout the theater. I felt that my mind was transferring my thoughts into the minds of my audience. The sensation felt telepathic as I began. My thoughts seemed to be completely explosive.
It was difficult to go back into the past. In my mind I was producing images and shadows of the past events and how I became affected by so many dramatic changes in my life.
Strangely enough, I still maintained my awareness that I was actually talking to my therapist. I didn’t feel any sensation of interference or restriction as I heard the sound of my voice, which seemed to be very subdued. Emotionally, I was connecting to the shadows of my past. Every moment excited enough to continue to my earliest dynamic events.
