We enjoyed building sand castles on the play ground, bombing them later on with rocks; playing Cops-&-Robbers, hide-&-seek with other kids, or with toy cars or simply kicking ball around. Though we had a ball of our own, it was David who was its rightful owner. Once Mom’s cousin, our aunt, came over with one ball for two of us, she probably thought it would be fair to entrust the present to the elder brother, who knows? Anyway, David got the ball. It wasn’t that bad – brother shared but rarely. That day I asked for it, and, though, David wasn’t anxious to give it away, I was quite persistent. Eventually, I heard: - Catch me and you’ll get it. - You’re hard to catch up with, I can never get hold of you, you’re seven and I’m only five, and you’re too tall. - Come on, give it a try,- David said, teasing me with a ball, and tossing it right in front of my face, he added: - I cross my heart, if you catch me, I’ll let you play with it the whole evening. - OK, go on, – I said. David started off, with me chasing him at breakneck speed, and trying to catch up. In a matter of seconds we were by the neighboring yard: - Wait up, what are you doing? The world of literature and art received such famous literati as Olha Kobylyanska, Iryna Vilde, Yuriy Fedkovych, Mikhaj Eminesku, Paul Tselan; widely known singers: Dmytro Hnatyuk, Sofia Rotaru, Nazarij Yaremchuk, Pavlo Dvorskiy; composers: Vasyl Mykhaylyuk, Levko Dutkivskiy, Volodymyr Ivasyuk; painters: Mykola Ivasyuk, Ivan Kholomenyuk, Elayida Neiman, Oleh Lyubkivskiy and many others who are still living or have already met the eternity, but whose creative work contributed significantly to the contemporary culture. When living in the region blessed by so many artistic talents Liliana Gorovets couldn’t betray these roots. When turned 18 she seriously put pen to paper to give life to the first prose creations, that were published in different Soviet literary magazines. After Liliana got acquainted and later became pen friends with Barbara Dzeber, doctor of genetics, from Yukhym Husar, Man of letters, member of the Ukrainian National League of Journalists.
