We advanced. His axe swung in an arc, trying to rip my stomach open. I stepped back and brought the sword down towards his head. “Easy, “ I thought. But he reversed his swing and drove the axe upwards. The weapons clashed. The force of the impact shuddered through my arms. They went numb. He kept swinging. A circle of steel death confronted me. I kept moving back. Blocking, defending. At one point he trapped my sword with his axe, and a back fist caught me full in the face. I flew through the air. I lost grip of my sword. As I was picking myself up, his foot caught me full in the face. Blood gushed from my mouth and nose. My eyes watered. All I could think of was M’lady, and of the pain I would feel if I were to die.
