I have lived in the glorious springtime,
When love was exciting and new,
I’ve been kissed in the silvery moonlight,
And tasted the fresh morning dew.
I have welcomed the warmth of summer,
Sipped life’s nectar, cool and sweet.
Slept with strong arms around me,
Watched the children play ‘round my feet.
I have felt the deep pain of parting,
With a love that had pledged to be mine.
When death came one night without warning,
And made me drink of it’s bitter wine.
I have felt the chill air of autumn,
When leaves turn to red and to gold,
The gray hair has come and the wrinkles,
Yet I do not fear growing old.
Now I’m facing life’s winter,
And the distant trumpet calls,
So I will laugh and love and live,
Before the first snow falls.
