Story 1
Some Key West locals knew Gene as a kind, respected artist. However, many saw Gene much differently. It was said that Gene became disillusioned by Robert the doll. After the painter inherited the house from his parents, the doll was found in the attic. As the story goes, Gene reconnected with his beloved straw friend. Anne, however, despised Robert and wanted the doll kept locked away. Gene, on the other hand, insisted that his doll be given a room of his own with a window view. Therefore he moved Robert to the turret. It was here that passerby’s would see the doll peering down at them and sometimes even mocking them. School children refused to walk past the Eaton Street home. When friends of the Otto’s would come to visit, they claimed to hear footsteps in the attic. It wasn’t long after that that houseguests stopped visiting and even Gene felt evil emanating from the doll at this time. Robert was brought back to the attic, where he was once again forgotten.
In South Florida, a residence stands with a menacing tale. A residence where a poorly treated servant girl offers a voodoo doll as a gift with negative intentions.
