About the Book

The story is about a North Carolina farm boy who graduates from North Carolina State University with a degree in textile engineering and goes on to become Governor of South Carolina.  The plot of the story is how his success is based on the women in his life, and the way a “highway” is the thread that holds it all together.  His adventures take him to numerous places including Cuba, which results in him becoming an unwilling “pawn” for the CIA.  The secondary theme is how my main character grows up in the “Old South” but becomes part of the “New South.”

About the Author

The author was born and raised in a rural “cotton town” in North Carolina, which at the time, was part of the “Old South.” At the age of fifteen, he ran away from home and joined the Air Force by telling a lie about his age. His Air Force career took him to most of Europe and Asia including three years as an advisor to the Royal Hellenic Greek Air Force. He served in the Korean, Vietnam and Cold wars.

After his retirement from the Air Force, he became a high school teacher for twenty-one years. It was during his teaching years that he began to appreciate the changes that had been made in the “New South.”  Many of the locations in the book are places where he visited and established memories.
