One night Lynda had an exciting dream. She was pregnant in the dream! The next morning she told a friend. “I am getting a pregnancy test from the store today. I don’t know why.”
Guess what? The result was positive. She went to a pregnancy center for a second test. Lynda was told, “I am so sorry but you are pregnant.” They did not understand. Perhaps they thought she came to their pregnancy center because she would want an abortion.
Excitement was so great that she went around the waiting room rejoicing that she was finally pregnant. She was hugging strangers. Several teenagers sitting in the waiting room must have been touched deeply through her rejoicing.
The next thing she remembers doing is calling her mother. “Oh, no!” exclaimed her mother. She was concerned for her daughter’s health. Lynda questioned why she called her mother first with the news. In looking back she believes her husband should have been first to know.
Tim was at work when all this was taking place. Lynda began trying to call him. Finally, she called security and told them it was an emergency. They hurried to locate Tim with the news that he had an emergency and needed to call home.
When Tim got to the phone, he heard his wife of eleven years say, “You are going to be a dad.”
Tim replied, “What? Say it slow.”
“Y o u a r e g o I n g t o b e a d a d d y!” repeated Lynda. He was filled with joy and tears.
Lynda called the doctor to inform him that she was diabetic and pregnant. She was admitted into the hospital because her medical condition meant the baby’s life was at stake. The immediate medical help was needed or she would have lost the baby. Another miracle – a dream had led her to do a pregnancy test when she had no clues of being pregnant!
“I had no idea I was seven weeks pregnant when I walked several blocks home from work in an ice storm. I had to get home from the daycare that day. Now I realize how dangerous walking on the ice was for me,” recalled Lynda.
Before the pregnancy, her diet and exercise had controlled Lynda’s diabetes. The pregnancy however, was difficult for her and the baby. The insulin requirement became large. Her blood sugar and blood pressure were uncontrollable.
The doctor discussed abortion because of the great risk for the mother and the baby. The doctors and nurses probably did not believe the baby would live. They knew how the Fitzgerald’s had wanted a baby for such a long time. Of course, abortion was something Tim and Lynda would not even consider.
Lynda was in and out of the hospital during her pregnancy. Her blood sugar stayed around 400-500. About halfway through the pregnancy, tests indicated all kinds of problems for the baby.
“I felt in my heart God was giving us a child. I really did! No matter what was wrong with the baby, we were prepared to accept the child,” explained Lynda.
Time for delivery approached. A large group of doctors and nurses were prepared for the worst. They even had a helicopter ready to transport the baby elsewhere for emergency treatment.
Lynda stretched her arms out wide and said, “I was in labor all day. He was perfect. He came out as a witness for the Lord! I saw a nurse crying and whispering about how good the baby looked.”
A doctor replied, “This baby is a miracle. The test showed problems. Well, Mrs. Fitzgerald you did a good job!”
Lynda gave God the praise for doing a good job and said, “No, not me, it was God”.
She knew in her heart the miracle was from God. The baby was the answer to many of their prayers. The helicopter was not needed. Tears were seen in the eyes of doctors and nurses.
Lynda heard one doctor reply, “We have been studying his case for weeks. Tests showed major problems. We can not find anything wrong. He is perfect. This baby is a miracle.”
Lynda was flat on her back from having a cesarean but praising God for the miracle! With tears a doctor replies, “I am glad the baby is okay. You’ve waited a long time.”
The next day this new mother w
