It was Saturday, and Pa was really mad at me. He’d whupped me good for daydreamin’ with my sketch pad behind the barn, ‘stead of finishin’ the daily chores, so I was sulkin’ behind the big oak tree.
I guess I was always lookin’ for a chance to draw pictures of everythin’ from a tree or our old hound Lucifer. But my favorite subject was people’s faces. I had done about four sketches that day, an’ Pa had a pretty good idea of how much time that took away from work.
My name’s Obadiah Grant, but everyone’s always called me Obie. I was sixteen years old an’ curious about everythin’.
“Th-those wagons, what are they? Where are the horses? How do they move? I’m having a bad dream.” I was stammerin’ and shakin’ like I had a chill.
Bob pulled me over to a bench, pushed me down and sat next to me.
“How old are you?” He asked quietly.
“I’m sixteen.”
“What year were you born?”
“1870.”
He stared at me for several minutes sayin’ nothing at all. Then slowly spoke the most amazin’ words I could possibly imagine:
“This is the twenty-first century. This is the year 2000.” He paused for a moment, then said, “That would make you one hundred and thirty years old. One of us is hallucinating or dreaming, and I don’t think it’s me.”

There is an easy flow to your narrative, that is wonderful. The character development is good. We certainly see your young protagonist grow.
I do like the way you tell a story – it’s like listening to a good storyteller. It’s even easy to follow, and you have a nice way with dialogue, I notice the emphasis on certain values – self growth, caring, friendship - and of course there is a love story. Nice job.
About the Author
Harry Newman was in his mid-seventies when he found delight in using a computer. While working on his autobiography, he discovered a latent talent for writing. His autobiography entitled “A Slender Thread Of Sound” took seven years to complete, resulting in a successful publication.
“Wake Up, I Love You” is his first novel. This time it only took him two years to complete.
He is currently working on a humorous narrative called “The Travelers”, a compilation of anecdotes about forty-two years of driving recreational vehicles around the
